Mountain Home is a small town located in Emore County. As of the 2000 census, the population was just over 11,000.  Most of the employers are small businesses, although the Mountain Home Air Force Base is nearby.

One of the advantages of going to school in a small town like Mountain Home is that the class sizes are small.  This means there exists a better opportunity for the kids to have one-on-one time with teachers.  In Mountain Home, there are 8 elementary schools, 5 high schools, 7 public schools, 4 private academies, and even 3 charter schools.  Two school districts, Mountain Home District and Idaho Virtual High Charter Lea, oversee the schools.

Because Mountain Home is a small town, it's not surprising that most of the restaurants have a certain small-town atmosphere to them. What might be surprising is just how many nice restaurants there are!   Among these are the Chi Yo Thai for Thai cuisine; the Golden Crown for Chinese food; Joe's Club for American favorites; the Pizza Place for delicious Italian entrees; Scrubby's Smokehouse for steak and other American fare; Stoney's Desert Inn, Tiger Den and Top Hat Barbeque with a variety of menu items.  There are also the standard fast-food restaurants that any contemporary American town has.

Shopping is always a concern when a family considers moving into a new area.  You don't want to get moved into your new Mountain Home townhome rental only to find out that your essential needs can't be easily found.  Fortunately, there are several grocery stores and small shops to help you meet these needs.

Weekends in Mountain Home: Recreation & Entertainment
 
For a small town, Mountain Home offers lots of exciting things to do on the weekend (or even during your free time during the week).  There are several museums that are both entertaining and educational. These include Mountain Home Historical Museum, Mountain Home Railroad Park, Elmore County Historical Museum, and Stony's Coin Machines.

Some people prefer to spend their weekends enjoying the outdoors.  You'll be happy to hear that there are several parks in Mountain Home where you can take your family for picnics, sports and other activities. One is sure to be just a few minutes from your  Mountain Home rental apartment, townhome, or house. These parks include Railroad Park, Anderson Ranch Recreation Area, East Side Park, Memorial Park, Richard Aguirre Park, and Carl Miller Park.

Some special events to check out include the 3D Memorial Rodeo in June, Crazee Daze in May, the Gunfighter Skies Air Show in September, the Fourth of July Festival held each year at Carl Miller Park, and Air Force Appreciation Day.
